All Power
-
In line with what we learnt when studying Ephesians* , let's have a look
at the following teaching:
-
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
-
(Colossians 1:16)
-
-
Another verse to ponder over.
-
-
We surely know this passage:
-
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by
him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
-
(John 1:1-3)
-
And this one?
-
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
-
(Colossians 1:17)
-
But has the reality become apparent that the One who became Jesus of Nazareth
actually created Satan?
-
It also seems clear, but hard to believe, that Satan was created for His
use. Before or after his fall, or both?
-
Remember, before time was, God and Jesus were.
-
-
From previous studies we have noted that Lucifer(Satan) was created to
be the angel of God's presence; and was probably the chief music maker
in heaven. After he rebelled and was cast onto the earth he became the
god of this world.
-
The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of
the rulers.
-
(Isaiah 14:5)
-
All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we?
art thou become like unto us? Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and
the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover
thee. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how
art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou
hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne
above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation,
in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to
the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee,
and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the
earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as
a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not
the house of his prisoners?
-
(Isaiah 14:10-17)
-
-
Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto
him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom,
and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every
precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond,
the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the
carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was
prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the
anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast
upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst
of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day
that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude
of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and
thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain
of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the
stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast
corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the
ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast
defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity
of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of
thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth
in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among
the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never
shalt thou be any more.
-
(Ezekiel 28:12-19)
-
-
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the
god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest
the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should
shine unto them.
-
(2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
-
This we know from the word of God.
-
-
We can perhaps also understand more fully why Satan wanted the man Jesus
to bow down and worship him.
-
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth
him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto
him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship
me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan:
for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt
thou serve.
-
(Matthew 4:8-10)
-
The Creator submitting to the created?!!
-
-
Fortunately for us, Satan cannot interpret the Scriptures and didn't realise
that he was doing what was expected of him when Jesus was crucified, or
he wouldn't have manipulated it:
-
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom
of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But
we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom,
which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes
of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified
the Lord of glory.
-
(1 Corinthians 2:6-8)
-
-
Satan's power over mankind is the fear of death: and the death and resurrection
of Christ Jesus resulted in Him destroying the power of death to all who
believe in the Covenant that He, the Son of man, made with the Father.
-
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection
of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made
alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward
they that are Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when
he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he
shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign,
till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that
shall be destroyed is death.
-
(1 Corinthians 15:21-26)
-
-
This is why the resurrected Jesus could say:
-
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power
is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
-
(Matthew 28:18)
-
and Paul could exclaim:
-
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour,
the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned
like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able
even to subdue all things unto himself.
-
(Philippians 3:20-21)
-
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
-
(Colossians 2:10)
-
-
That is why:
-
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of
them openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you
in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon,
or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but
the body is of Christ. Let no man beguile you of your reward in
a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things
which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding
the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment
ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. Wherefore
if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though
living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not;
handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments
and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will
worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to
the satisfying of the flesh.
-
(Colossians 2:15-23)
-
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where
Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above,
not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with
Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then
shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members
which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection,
evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things'
sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which
ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off
all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of
your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old
man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed
in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither
Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond
nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
-
(Colossians 3:1-11)
-
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies,
kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another,
and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even
as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things
put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace
of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye
do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God and the Father by him.
-
(Colossians 3:12-17)
-
-
We see clearly that by keeping our eyes on spiritual things on a daily
basis, we give the Holy Spirit free rein(Reign) to operate in our lives,
building up our faith in the reality of God's kingdom and the hope of where
we are going; but that while we consider the lusts and concerns of this
world (Satan's kingdom), we are not swayed by its events.
-
-
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord,
and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward
of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
-
(Colossians 3:23-24)
