Prideful Sin
-
- Which is sin that we each commit even though we know that
it is wrong before or even while doing it.
- Acts or thoughts that grieve our heavenly Father's heart.
- And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of
them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered
strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went
out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying,
I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people
I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. And Moses called Mishael
and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them,
Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.
So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as
Moses had said. And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar,
his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die,
and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole
house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled. And ye
shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest
ye die: for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you. And they
did according to the word of Moses. And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying,
Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when
ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall
be a statute for ever throughout your generations: And that ye may
put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;
- (Leviticus 10:1-10)
- And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was
an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the
Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;
And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the LORD,
and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was
Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) And they put him
in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them. And the LORD spake
unto Moses, saying, Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp;
and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let
all the congregation stone him.
- (Leviticus 24:10-14)
- And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall
bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering. And the priest shall
make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth
by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall
be forgiven him. Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance,
both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for
the stranger that sojourneth among them. But the soul that doeth ought
presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the
same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his
people. Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken
his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall
be upon him.
- (Numbers 15:27-31)
- And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire
before the LORD.
- (Numbers 26:61)
- And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake
unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words
of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all
that they have spoken. O that there were such an heart in them, that they
would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well
with them, and with their children for ever!
- (Deuteronomy 5:28-29)
- And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not
hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD
thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put
away the evil from Israel. And all the people shall hear, and fear, and
do no more presumptuously.
- (Deuteronomy 17:12-13)
- But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word
in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak
in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
- (Deuteronomy 18:20)
- Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins;
let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall
be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and
the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength,
and my redeemer.
- (Psalms 19:13-14)
- The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and
his ears are open unto their cry.
- (Psalms 34:15)
- *A Psalm of David.* Fret not thyself because of
evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For
they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land,
and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he
shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD;
trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring
forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because
of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked
devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself
in any wise to do evil.
- (Psalms 37:1-8)
- For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou
hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
- (Psalms 73:27)
- The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding
shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
- (Proverbs 21:16)
- And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners
shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
- (Isaiah 1:28)
- Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth
in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
- (Jeremiah 17:5)
- The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms
of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem,
and against all the cities thereof, saying, Thus saith the LORD, the God
of Israel; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith
the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon,
and he shall burn it with fire: And thou shalt not escape out of his hand,
but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes
shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee
mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon. Yet hear the word of the
LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of thee, Thou shalt
not die by the sword: But thou shalt die in peace: and with the
burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall
they burn odours for thee; and they will lament thee, saying,
Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the LORD. Then Jeremiah
the prophet spake all these words unto Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,
When the king of Babylon's army fought against Jerusalem, and against all
the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah:
for these defenced cities remained of the cities of Judah. This is
the word that came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king Zedekiah
had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem,
to proclaim liberty unto them; That every man should let his manservant,
and every man his maidservant, being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess,
go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew
his brother. Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered
into the covenant, heard that every one should let his manservant, and
every one his maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of
them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go. But afterward
they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let
go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for
handmaids. Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD,
saying, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with
your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondmen, saying, At the end of seven years let ye go
every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when
he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but
your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear. And ye
were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty
every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the
house which is called by my name: But ye turned and polluted my name, and
caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had set
at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection,
to be unto you for servants and for handmaids. Therefore thus saith the
LORD; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one
to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty
for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine;
and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth. And
I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, which have not
performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when
they cut the calf in twain, and passed between the parts thereof, The princes
of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and
all the people of the land, which passed between the parts of the calf;
I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand
of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies shall be for meat unto
the fowls of the heaven, and to the beasts of the earth. And Zedekiah king
of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and
into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king
of Babylon's army, which are gone up from you. Behold, I will command,
saith the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight
against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities
of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.
- (Jeremiah 34:1-22)
- All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries
said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation
of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.
- (Jeremiah 50:7)
- Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment
ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be
measured to you again.
- (Matthew 7:1-2)
- But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not:
and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
- (Luke 22:32)
- For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against
all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath
shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation
of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are
made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without
excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not
as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and
their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they
became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image
made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and
creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through
the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the
creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this
cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change
the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the
men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward
another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in
themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they
did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over
to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being
filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness,
maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil
things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers,
without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment
of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only
do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
- (Romans 1:18-32)
- Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou
art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself;
for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment
of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And
thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and
doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
- (Romans 2:1-3)
- Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him,
that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not
serve sin.
- (Romans 6:6)
- But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared
for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his
Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which
is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of
God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit
which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to
us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom
teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things
with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit
of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth
all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the
mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
- (1 Corinthians 2:9-16)
- Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not
the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
- (1 Corinthians 15:34)
- Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil
heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another
daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the
deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the
beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
- (Hebrews 3:12-14)
- For if we sin
wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there
remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for
of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
- (Hebrews 10:26-27)
- See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they
escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not
we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
- (Hebrews 12:25)
- My little children, these things write I unto you, that
ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not
for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby
we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith,
I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth
is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of
God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth
in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. Brethren, I write
no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the
beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the
beginning. Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true
in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now
shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in
darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light,
and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his
brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither
he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. I write unto you,
little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from
the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the
wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the
Father. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that
is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because
ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome
the wicked one. Love not the world, neither the things that are
in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not
in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and
the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but
is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but
he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Little children, it is
the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now
are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. They
went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us,
they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out,
that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. But ye have
an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I have not written
unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that
no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is
the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever
denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth
the Son hath the Father also. Let that therefore abide in you, which
ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the
beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in
the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even
eternal life. These things have I written unto you concerning them
that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth
in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing
teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it
hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. And now, little children, abide
in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be
ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know
that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
- (1 John 2:1-29)

- Now for the other side of the coin:
- Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For
there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever
therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they
that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a
terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of
the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which
is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the
minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth
evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but
also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they
are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render
therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom
to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Owe no man any
thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled
the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not
covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended
in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love
worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling
of the law.
- (Romans 13:1-10)
- For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord,
every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then
every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Let us not therefore
judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock
or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. I know, and am persuaded
by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but
to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not
charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not
then your good be evil spoken of: For the kingdom of God is not meat and
drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he
that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved
of men. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace,
and things wherewith one may edify another.
- (Romans 14:11-19)
