The Light in the Darkness
-
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by
him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life;
and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and
the darkness comprehended it not.
-
(John 1:1-5)
-
-
Those of us who live in "Darkest Africa" where intermittent electricity
supply is a way of life, know full well that at night the light of a single
candle pushes back the darkness, but the further away from the candle the
darker it gets. However, we can see the light of the candle from a long
way away, even though it is dark where we are, and should we choose to
go to the light source it shows us of itself the way to find it.
-
Moreover, without the stored up energy that produces the light from the
sun, there would be no photosynthesis, no growing things. There would never
have been any life - only darkness.
-
-
So, the darkness is, in computer terms the "default" of this present time
period; energy is needed to power up the light source to defeat the darkness.
-
The power that produces light needs to be manufactured to endure, and except
in very small amounts, cannot be stored in these times. This means then
that in the natural, light is a "living thing"; it can be switched on or
off at will to power up the light bulb.
-
-
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was
without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said,
Let there be light: and there was light.
-
(Genesis 1:1-3)
-
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the
lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God
set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And
to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the
darkness: and God saw that it was good.
-
(Genesis 1:16-18)
-
-
It is different with supernatural power - the energy from a Supernatural
Everlasting Light source is always there, but connection needs to be made
thereto in a supernatural manner. This is exactly opposite to the natural
way of things, not so?
-
-
A great example in the Bible is David, who became king:
-
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing
I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil,
and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided
me a king among his sons. And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it,
he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say,
I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and
I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him
whom I name unto thee. And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came
to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said,
Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto
the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he
sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice. And it
came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely
the LORD'S anointed is before him. But the LORD said unto Samuel,
Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I
have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh
on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. Then Jesse
called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither
hath the LORD chosen this. Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said,
Neither hath the LORD chosen this. Again, Jesse made seven of his sons
to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen
these. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And
he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the
sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not
sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was
ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look
to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
-
(1 Samuel 16:1-12)
-
David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion,
and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this
Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee. And
Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his
head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. And David girded his sword
upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it.
And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved
them. And David put them off him. And he took his staff in his hand,
and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's
bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand:
and he drew near to the Philistine. And the Philistine came on and drew
near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him:
for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. And
the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to
me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine
said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of
the air, and to the beasts of the field. Then said David to the Philistine,
Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but
I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies
of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into
mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I
will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the
fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth
may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know
that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is
the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands. And it came to pass, when
the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David
hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his
hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote
the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead;
and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine
with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him;
but there was no sword in the hand of David.
-
(1 Samuel 17:37-50)
-
Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went
down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and
David waxed faint. And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the
giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels
of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to
have slain David. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote
the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying,
Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light
of Israel. And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle
with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which
was of the sons of the giant. And there was again a battle in Gob
with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite,
slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear
was like a weaver's beam. And there was yet a battle in Gath, where
was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers,
and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was
born to the giant. And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea
the brother of David slew him. These four were born to the giant in Gath,
and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
-
(2 Samuel 21:15-22)
-
Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said,
and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of
Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, The Spirit of the LORD spake
by me, and his word was in my tongue. The God of Israel said, the
Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just,
ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be as the light of the morning,
when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as
the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after
rain.
-
(2 Samuel 23:1-4)
-
-
In our situation today, God is the Power Source, Jesus Christ is the Connector
to that source and the Holy Spirit is the Switch that enables the Power
to be utilised. We are merely the ones who are privileged to be able to
make use of that Power.
-
More explicitly, we are the agents in the natural who can use the Power
of the Supernatural to defeat the spiritual darkness in the natural. This
is so because the gift of the spiritual light that man received from God
was, by man, cast away. In this way mankind stepped down into the darkness
of the natural world and the supernatural was closed to him because he
was proved untrustworthy.
-
In His perfect justice and love, God needs man to reclaim what is rightfully
His, namely His creation, even though God has the Power to do anything
to overcome this problem. His perfectness precludes this form of cheating
and requires Adam's descendants to do this for themselves so that our Creator
can rightfully become their God again.
-
Moreover, His perfectness gives mankind the choice of wanting to do this
for his Creator or not.
-
-
God's enemy, Satan, however, has learned to lay carnal and spiritual red
herrings, smoke-screens etc. in the way of God's creation so that he or
she fails to light the candle of the Holy Spirit's power that shall light
up Satan's spiritual darkness.
-
-
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and
by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in
mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as
from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by
any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling
away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who
opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is
worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself
that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told
you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed
in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who
now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then
shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit
of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
-
(2 Thessalonians 2:1-8)
-
-
Please, please understand that we each need the indwelling supernatural
Power of the Holy Spirit of God to defeat the power of Satan's darkness.
We cannot use natural methods to defeat the supernatural.
-
-
Moreover, one candle can only put out a feeble light, but one billion energy
saving light bulbs shall put the lover of darkness on the run, enabling
the Owner to reclaim His property. FOR HIS RIGHTFUL GLORY!
-
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then
cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on
the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth
receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that
soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. And herein is that saying
true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent you to reap that whereon
ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their
labours.
-
(John 4:35-38)
-
-
God's perfect Holiness and Righteousness includes lovingkindness and longsuffering
to those whom He created for His pleasure, and the result of this shall
mean that those whom He chooses will be changed to be with Him in perfectness
- one day forever.
-
-
Hallelujah!
-
-
God wants you in a Covenant relationship with Him.
-
What a privilege!
-
What a responsibility!
-
Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not
defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they
are worthy. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment;
and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess
his name before my Father, and before his angels.
-
(Revelation 3:4-5)
-
Are you and I willing to become His Spiritual bride, unspotted from the
worldly system?
-
-
Here is an example of what God did to His Covenant people after they went
a-whoring after other gods.
-
Darkness:
-
How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how
is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations,
and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!
She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks:
among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends
have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies. Judah is
gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude:
she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors
overtook her between the straits. The ways of Zion do mourn, because none
come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh,
her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness. Her adversaries
are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the LORD hath afflicted her for
the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity
before the enemy. And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed:
her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they
are gone without strength before the pursuer. Jerusalem remembered in the
days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that
she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy,
and none did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock at
her sabbaths. Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed:
all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness:
yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
-
(Lamentations 1:1-8)
-
Light:
-
The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that
seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly
wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he
bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because
he hath borne it upon him.
-
(Lamentations 3:25-28)
-
-
There are no grey areas, we must choose either light or darkness. If we
do nothing, we have chosen darkness. Our reward shall be as a result of
our choice.
-
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was
of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were
transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty
and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun,
neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it,
and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which
are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do
bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be
shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring
the glory and honour of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise
enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh
abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the
Lamb's book of life.
-
(Revelation 21:21-27)
-
-
And Finally, let God's light continue to shine in our lives, yours and
mine:
-
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee,
because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou
art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto
thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except
thou repent.
-
(Revelation 2:4-5)
-
-
-
Here is a selection* of relevant passages of Scripture:
-
-
Light; both physical and supernatural.
-
How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children
of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. They shall be abundantly
satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink
of the river of thy pleasures. For with thee is the fountain of
life: in thy light shall we see light. O continue thy lovingkindness unto
them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. (Psalms
36:7-10)
-
-
O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me
unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Then will I go unto the altar
of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee,
O God my God. (Psalms 43:3-4)
-
-
*To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil.* We have heard with
our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst
in their days, in the times of old. How thou didst drive out the
heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict
the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession
by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right
hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst
a favour unto them. (Psalms 44:1-3)
-
-
For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far
above all gods. Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls
of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Light
is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice
in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
(Psalms 97:9-12)
-
-
ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law
of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and
that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they
walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! (Psalms 119:1-5)
-
-
NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
(Psalms 119:105)
-
-
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more
and more unto the perfect day. (Proverbs 4:18)
-
-
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and
reproofs of instruction are the way of life: (Proverbs 6:23)
-
-
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour
that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation
of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. And I turned myself
to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do
that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.
Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
(Ecclesiastes 2:11-13)
-
-
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of
the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and
shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And
many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain
of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of
his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth
the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among
the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords
into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift
up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. O house
of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. (Isaiah 2:1-5)
-
-
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for
light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for
bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent
in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine,
and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Which justify the wicked for
reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! (Isaiah
5:20-23)
-
-
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell
in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. (Isaiah
9:2)
-
-
Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore
have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the
day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. Behold,
ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness:
ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard
on high. Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict
his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread
sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an
acceptable day to the LORD? Is not this the fast that I have chosen?
to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let
the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to
deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast
out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that
thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? Then shall thy light break
forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and
thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be
thy rereward. Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt
cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst
of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted
soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be
as the noonday: (Isaiah 58:3-10)
-
-
Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors
of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom. For the son dishonoureth
the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in
law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his
own house. Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God
of my salvation: my God will hear me. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy:
when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be
a light unto me. I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have
sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me:
he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.
(Micah 7:5-9)
-
-
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat
in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus
began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom
of heaven is at hand. (Matthew 4:16-17)
-
-
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where
moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust
doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where
your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body
is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full
of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is
that darkness! (Matthew 6:19-23)
-
-
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and
bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before
them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the
light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with
him. (Matthew 17:1-3)
-
-
And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon;
and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation
of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him
by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the
Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the
parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the
law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord,
now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For
mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the
face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy
people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which
were spoken of him. And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother,
Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many
in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Luke 2:25-34)
-
-
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the
light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but
shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
-
-
Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth
not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that
sent me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on
me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe
not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the
world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that
judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the
last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me,
he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And
I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore,
even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. (John 12:44-50)
-
-
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples
of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus
to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were
men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed,
he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light
from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him,
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he
said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am
Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against
the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt
thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise,
and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
(Acts 9:1-6)
-
-
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the
word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it
from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn
to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have
set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation
unto the ends of the earth. (Acts 13:46-47)
-
-
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt
not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and
if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in
this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh
no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the
law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake
out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the
works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly,
as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness,
not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make
not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
(Romans 13:9-14)
-
-
Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards
of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man
be found faithful. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be
judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. For
I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth
me is the Lord. Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord
come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will
make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have
praise of God. And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred
to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in
us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one
of you be puffed up for one against another. (1 Corinthians 4:1-6)
-
-
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship
hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light
with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath
he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of
God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said,
I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be
ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and
I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons
and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous
man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ
and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these
things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not
ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now
are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit
of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving
what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful
works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even
to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things
that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make
manifest is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise
from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. (Ephesians 5:5-14)

I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and
before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good
confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable,
until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall
shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings,
and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which
no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be
honour and power everlasting. Amen. (1 Timothy 6:13-16)

Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and
envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk
of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the
Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone,
disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also,
as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to
offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore
also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner
stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which
be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made
the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence,
even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto
also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth
the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous
light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now
the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained
mercy. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,
abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation
honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers,
they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God
in the day of visitation. (1 Peter 2:1-12)

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you,
that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we
have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the
truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from
all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say
that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
(1 John 1:5-10)
