God's word to the prophet1 concerning the Messiah:
-
Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to
him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant
of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because
of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he
shall choose thee. Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard
thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve
thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth,
to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; That thou mayest say to the
prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves.
They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all
high places. They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor
sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by
the springs of water shall he guide them.
-
(Isaiah 49:7-10)
-
-
Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake;
I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because
of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness. For the land is
full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant
places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their
force is not right. For both prophet and priest are profane; yea,
in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.
-
(Jeremiah 23:9-11)
-
-
As we have read from a previous study2, the leaders of the Jews
in the time of Jesus of Nazareth's public ministry had all the old Covenant
books to read from and yet they could not accept Him as the Messiah.
-
They had a form of righteousness, but not according to wisdom or knowledge.
-
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding
have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for
ever.
-
(Psalms 111:10)
-
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge
of the holy is understanding.
-
(Proverbs 9:10)
-
Their hearts were not right with God as David's was and as a result were
deceived enough to lead the simple people astray who looked up to them,
with the resultant crucifixion of Jesus.
-
These things I command you, that ye love one another.
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated
you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because
ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore
the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant
is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also
persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because
they know not him that sent me. If I had not come and spoken unto them,
they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. He that
hateth me hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works
which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both
seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that
the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me
without a cause.

(John 15:17-25)

We live in a very conservative "christian" society in this bushveld town,
and so far, none of those friends and neighbours who have been shown the
Truth have reacted to it. They are mostly devout church-goers, regularly
attending their various denomination's church services, nodding their heads
at what the preacher is saying, but also, their hearts are not right with
God. Most of them have very little knowledge of God's word, or the revelation
of the idea behind the word and therefore accept the preaching which their
denomination is willing to serve out.
-
-
This may sound very condemnatory to some, nevertheless God's word remains
unchanged.
-
Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of
his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him
trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God
-
(Isaiah 50:10)
-
-
However, you who were in darkness and are now reborn into God's marvellous
light shall be a prince and a ruler. Learn to endure the hardship and ridicule
of others for a short while, knowing that your rewards are sure.
-
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart
is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid
of their revilings. For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and
the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever,
and my salvation from generation to generation.
-
(Isaiah 51:7-8)
-
Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority
over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom
of God, and to heal the sick. And he said unto them, Take
nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread,
neither money; neither have two coats apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter
into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will not receive you,
when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for
a testimony against them. And they departed, and went through the
towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.
-
(Luke 9:1-6)
-
And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him:
and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that
I am? They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say,
Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
Peter answering said, The Christ of God. And he straitly charged them,
and commanded them to tell no man that thing; Saying, The
Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief
priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
And he said to them all, If any man
will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily,
and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever
will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man
advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the
Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his
Father's, and of the holy angels. But I tell you of a truth, there be some
standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom
of God.
-
(Luke 9:18-27)
-
-
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD:
look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit
whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah
that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased
him.
-
(Isaiah 51:1-2)
-
For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love,
which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the
saints, and do minister. And we desire that every one of you do shew the
same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not
slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit
the promises. For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear
by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless
thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had patiently
endured, he obtained the promise.
