Biblical Healing Part 1
-
-
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men,
apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves;
if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the
truth;
-
(2 Timothy 2:24-25)

This passage of Scripture has been printed out on paper, hung on the wall
and is before my eyes as these words are being written.
-
Please study its import, muse upon it.
-
-
This is another as described above:
-
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried:
he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
-
(Psalms 18:30)

**************
-
-
Recently, a lady friend of my wife's had a slight stroke and although she
can talk once more she doesn't have full use of her one hand and foot.
My wife, who is a caregiver as well as an Occupational Therapist by profession,
has been helping her and in the course of her visits the lady mentioned
that she was puzzled why she had to have the stroke; she was a good
person, gave to and fed the poor, etc.
-
We discussed this, and as the Holy Spirit had just revealed the following
passage of Scripture, it is reprinted here for your profit.
-
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall
be many. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right
paths. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou
runnest, thou shalt not stumble. Take fast hold of instruction; let her
not go: keep her; for she is thy life. Enter not into the path of
the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not
by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep not, except they have
done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some
to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more
and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness:
they know not at what they stumble. My son, attend to my words; incline
thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them
in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find
them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence;
for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward
mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on,
and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy
feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor
to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
-
(Proverbs 4:10-27)
-
-
So we see once again that having wisdom ensures a healthy life.
-
-
Here's an even better known passage that shows the way to health:
-
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under
the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge
and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee
from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He
shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust:
his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid
for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by
day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor
for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall
at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not
come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward
of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge,
even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his
angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear
thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon
shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore
will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him
in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy
him, and shew him my salvation.
-
(Psalms 91:1-16)
-
-
Also, we see that prevention is better than cure:
-
A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness
of the bones.
-
(Proverbs 14:30)
-
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health
to the bones.
-
(Proverbs 16:24)
-
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto
all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is
to come.
-
(1 Timothy 4:8)
-
-
From many previous writings on this web site* we understand that mankind
is made up of body, soul and spirit.
-
-
We are each a complicated being, a person made by God for His pleasure.
-
-
When we are converted by the power of God from being worldly orientated
to spiritually orientated because of our willingness to submit our wills
(souls) to Him through the acknowledgement, thankfulness and belief of
the New Covenant that Jesus Christ made on our behalf on the cross and
after, the order of importance of our being has been changed around and
it is now spirit, soul and body.
-
-
Spirit - because our Master, who is a Spirit, now communicates with us
and can flow through us, if we let Him. (John 4:23-24)
-
-
Soul - because our souls (our wills etc.) can receive, recognise and be
obedient to the instructions given by our Creator through our activated
spirit.
-
-
Body - the method of locomoting our persons around in obedience to our
souls.
-
-
Most sickness and disease happens in the body, causing pain and many times
long-term suffering and sometimes death.
-
-
However, of the three parts of one's being,
-
Spirit - which is God's and goes back to Him at death,
-
Soul - which either goes to Hades or Paradise and never dies,
-
Body - which suffers with infirmity and death,
-
it is apparent that the least important is the body:
-
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which
is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are
bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit,
which are God's.
-
(1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
-
Yet the most fuss is made of it; vitamins to enhance its strength and vitality,
pills to enhance the sex-life; creams to beautify the face, etc.
-
-
What about the soul?
-
We can't see it, but we know that it's there because we each use it to
make most of our daily decisions.
-
It's a pity that most of us Christians don't realise that the Holy Spirit
is there also; always within call, always listening to the thoughts of
our hearts - like being in the next room.
-
-
As we have seen and shall further see, all healing as revealed in the Bible
was for the glorification of God, either directly, or for the purpose of
causing people (souls) to be converted so that eventually God would receive
the glory that He is entitled to.
-
-
At this stage it must be mentioned that there is a difference between "normal"
miraculous healing where there is the anointing with oil and laying on
of hands (Mark 16:17-18; James 5:13-15), and as we shall see later, the
healing performed by God through the hands of one who has received and
accepted the gift of healing. The latter is of immediate effect.
-
As we can see from reading the gospels, Jesus of Nazareth demonstrated
all this power.
-
-
While the public ministry of Jesus of Nazareth was sandwiched in between
the Old and New Covenants, He and His Father were (and still are) one and
Jesus always did what His Father wanted Him to do, even to be tortured
to death.
-
We can therefore learn much from studying the gospels concerning the healing
of the bodies and souls of those so afflicted, because as we shall see,
Jesus mainly used this method to draw attention to the certainty of the
Kingdom of God.
-
-
Direct glorification of God
-
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his
birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man,
or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither
hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should
be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while
it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the
world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he
spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes
of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go,
wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.)
He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
-
(John 9:1-7)
-
Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the
town of Mary and her sister Martha. (It was that Mary which anointed
the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother
Lazarus was sick.) Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold,
he whom thou lovest is sick. When Jesus heard that, he said, This
sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God
might be glorified thereby. Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister,
and Lazarus. When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two
days still in the same place where he was. Then after that saith he to
his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone
thee; and goest thou thither again? Jesus answered, Are
there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth
not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the
night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. These things
said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend
Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then
said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus
spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest
in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus
is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent
ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. Then said Thomas,
which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that
we may die with him. Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain
in the grave four days already. Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about
fifteen furlongs off: And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to
comfort them concerning their brother. Then Martha, as soon as she heard
that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the
house. Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother
had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God,
God will give it thee. Jesus saith unto her, Thy
brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he
shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her,
I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth
in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and
believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith
unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God,
which should come into the world. And when she had so said, she went her
way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and
calleth for thee. As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly,
and came unto him. Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in
that place where Martha met him. The Jews then which were with her in the
house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily
and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at
his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had
not died. When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping
which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, And said,
Where have ye laid him? They said unto him,
Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved
him! And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of
the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? Jesus therefore
again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone
lay upon it. Jesus said, Take ye away the stone.
Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this
time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto
her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest
believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then they took away
the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted
up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee
that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because
of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that
thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a
loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that
was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face
was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose
him, and let him go. Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and
had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. But some of them
went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

(John 11:1-46)

Because of faith in the one concerned
-
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion,
beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the
palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him,
I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord,
I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word
only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having
soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and
to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth
it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that
followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found
so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I say unto you, That many shall
come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac,
and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall
be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of
teeth.
-
(Matthew 8:5-12)
-
And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.
And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed:
and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son,
be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And, behold, certain
of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And
Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think
ye evil in your hearts? For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins
be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? But that ye may know that
the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the
sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. And
he arose, and departed to his house. But when the multitudes saw it,
they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.
-
(Matthew 9:1-8)
-
And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and
saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come
into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe
ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then
touched he their eyes, saying, According to your
faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly
charged them, saying, See that no man know
it.
-
(Matthew 9:27-30)
-
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the
wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto
them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the
sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for
fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be
of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and
said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said,
Come. And when Peter was come down out of
the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind
boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord,
save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught
him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore
didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind
ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying,
Of a truth thou art the Son of God. And when they were gone over, they
came into the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge
of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto
him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might only touch
the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
-
(Matthew 14:24-36)
-
Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto
him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter
is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his
disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth
after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent
but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and
worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It
is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from
their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O
woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.
And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
-
(Matthew 15:21-28)
-
In this case, it was the mother who had the faith.
-
-
And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of
the Gadarenes. And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there
met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his
dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains
had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither
could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the
mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But
when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, And cried with a
loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son
of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For
he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou
unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is
thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for
we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away
out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great
herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us
into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them
leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and
the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about
two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. And they that fed the swine
fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went
out to see what it was that was done. And they come to Jesus, and see him
that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed,
and in his right mind: and they were afraid. And they that saw it
told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also
concerning the swine. And they began to pray him to depart out of their
coasts. And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed
with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered
him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends,
and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had
compassion on thee. And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis
how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
-
(Mark 5:1-20)
-
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by
name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly,
saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee,
come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged
him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And
had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she
had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard
of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said,
If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain
of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was
healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue
had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who
touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest
the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked
round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing
and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before
him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter,
thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house
certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master
any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith
unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only
believe. And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James,
and John the brother of James. And he cometh to the house of the ruler
of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why
make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh
the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and
entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand,
and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is,
being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the
damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years.
And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
-
(Mark 5:22-42)
-
And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples
and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat
by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,
he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy
on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried
the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And
Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind
man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he,
casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and
said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto
thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my
sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith
hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and
followed Jesus in the way.
-
(Mark 10:46-52)
-
And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of
leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying,
Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And he put forth his
hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean.
And immediately the leprosy departed from him. And he charged him to tell
no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing,
according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Because of sin
-
And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and
they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before
him. And when they could not find by what way they might bring him
in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down
through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. And
when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy
sins are forgiven thee. And the scribes and the Pharisees began
to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive
sins, but God alone? But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering
said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say,
Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? But that ye may
know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said
unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise,
and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. And immediately
he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to
his own house, glorifying God. And they were all amazed, and they glorified
God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to
day.

Others that were healed who had not claimed faith
-
And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they
asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they
might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man
shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into
a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it
out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful
to do well on the sabbath days. Then saith he to the man, Stretch
forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored
whole, like as the other. Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council
against him, how they might destroy him. But when Jesus knew it,
he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and
he healed them all; And charged them that they should not make him known:
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well
pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the
Gentiles.
-
(Matthew 12:10-18)
-
And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold,
there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was
bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus
saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman,
thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands
on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And the
ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had
healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days
in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not
on the sabbath day. The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou
hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his
ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not
this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these
eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? And
when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all
the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
-
(Luke 13:10-17)
-
So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine.
And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When
he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him,
and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was
at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except
ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. The nobleman saith
unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go
thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus
had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
-
(John 4:46-50)
-
After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called
in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great
multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving
of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool,
and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the
water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain
man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus
saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case,
he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled,
to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before
me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed,
and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his
bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

(John 5:1-9)

-
We see here the purpose of the public ministry of Jesus of Nazareth:
-
And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain;
and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came
nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out,
the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the
city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her,
and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and
touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said,
Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he
that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great
prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. And
this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all
the region round about. And the disciples of John shewed him of all these
things. And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them
to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto
thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? And
in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues,
and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way,
and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see,
the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised,
to the poor the gospel is preached. And blessed is he, whosoever
shall not be offended in me.
-
(Luke 7:11-23)
-
-
There was a reason or two why they were healed, not so.
-
-
What else does the Bible teach about healing?
-
For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants,
when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none
shut up, or left. And he shall say, Where are their gods, their
rock in whom they trusted, Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and
drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you,
and be your protection. See now that I, even I, am
he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound,
and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. If I whet my
glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance
to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.
-
(Deuteronomy 32:36-41)
-
In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the
son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine
house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. Then he turned his face
to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying, I beseech thee, O LORD,
remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect
heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah
wept sore. And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle
court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell
Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David
thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will
heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and
this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this
city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
-
(2 Kings 20:1-6)
-
*A Psalm of David.* Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within
me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not
all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy
diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with
lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things;
so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
-
(Psalms 103:1-5)
-
Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God;
for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. The LORD doth build
up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. He healeth
the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number
of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is
our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. The
LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
-
(Psalms 147:1-6)
-
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer,
being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother's
womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which
is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And
Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he
gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter
said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the
right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle
bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered
with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
-
(Acts 3:1-8)
-
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,
when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
-
(Acts 3:19)
-
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that
God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him,
and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. The word which God
sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he
is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published
throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which
John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and
with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed
of the devil; for God was with him.
-
(Acts 10:34-38)
-
And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul
had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto
our fathers, Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear,
and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For
the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing,
and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their
eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their
heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Be it known therefore
unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that
they will hear it. And when he had said these words, the Jews departed,
and had great reasoning among themselves.
-
(Acts 28:24-29)
-
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even
as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking
by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can
say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities
of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations,
but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the
same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit
is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit
the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by
the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy;
to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues;
to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one
and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For
as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that
one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
-
(1 Corinthians 12:1-12)
-
A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever
it turneth, it prospereth.
-
(Proverbs 17:8)
-
-
Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the
husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience
for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient;
stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Grudge not
one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge
standeth before the door. Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken
in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of
patience. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the
patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very
pitiful, and of tender mercy. But above all things, my brethren, swear
not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath:
but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let
them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And
the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up;
and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your
faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was
a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that
it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three
years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and
the earth brought forth her fruit. Brethren, if any of you do err from
the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth
the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and
shall hide a multitude of sins.
-
(James 5:7-20)
-
For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye
shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it,
ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto
were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found
in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered,
he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being
dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were
healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the
Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
-
(1 Peter 2:20-25)
-
-
In the days of the public ministry of Jesus we have read that when a woman
who was diseased touched Him in faith she received healing but Jesus knew
that "virtue" went out of Him. We must realise two things here.
-
Firstly, many people were pressing against Jesus in the crowd and touching
Him, but only when someone in faith wanted of His power to heal her the
miracle happened. She was able to tap into that power. The power was there
waiting to be used. Incidentally, according to Jewish custom, it was forbidden
of women to be in a crowd such as that. She must have been desperate.
-
Secondly, Jesus felt the loss of Spiritual power, even though He had been
baptised in the Spirit at the time of His water baptism.
-
-
We have also read where certain persons were healed of sickness, had unclean
spirits cast out and the dead brought to life where neither the person
or clothes of Jesus touched them. In some cases Jesus wasn't even near.
-
-
God is the epitome of love; in fact God is love, patient, longsuffering
and wishing for everyone to come to the knowledge of the Truth.
-
As we have seen above, God has used disease of body or mind and the healing
thereof to wake up the souls of men to acknowledge and to submit to Him.
-
-
The Bible therefore teaches us that we must not try to understand these
happenings, we must believe that they happened.
-
-
We who believe in the greatest miracle of them all, the coming to life
of Jesus Christ in Power, resulting in the total defeat of the power of
the god of this world - Satan, have been given the privilege of being able
to direct God's power through our persons.
-
Do you believe that you who have the Holy Spirit dwelling in you
can do the same?
-
-
The person through who the healing takes place must have the necessary
faith:
-
And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain
man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for
he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire,
and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could
not cure him. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless
and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I
suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil;
and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast
him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your
unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard
seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and
it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this
kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
-
(Matthew 17:14-21)
-
-
Do you think (your mind), or perceive of the Holy Spirit that you might
have received the gift of healing but have been hesitant to attempt it,
perhaps for fear of failure or the derision of others?
-
-
Those of us who have been given the gift of healing and who accept the
gift for the purpose for which it was given, are merely a conduit through
which the power of the Holy Spirit of God works.
-
God is not our genie to be called up at will (soul). He is the Potter,
we the clay.
-
-
-
Do you believe that you can be healed of whatever sin, possession
by unclean spirits, or sickness, by the Power that Jesus of Nazareth used
and is available to you?
-
-
Really?
-
Really, really?
-
-
What are you going to do about it?
-
-
We know that God will not allow temptation to happen to us more than we
can bear, but will always give us a means of escape. It's important to
realise that we must do something, we have to get up and escape.
-
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye
are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that
ye may be able to bear it.
-
(1 Corinthians 10:13)

**************
-
-
Can a Christian lose his or her healing; whether of soul or body?
-
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him
with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all
hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou
seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast
thee off for ever.
-
(1 Chronicles 28:9)
-
And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the
midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village,
there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they
lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go
shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as
they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was
healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down
on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed?
but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give
glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise,
go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
-
(Luke 17:11-19)
-
After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
The Jews therefore
said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for
thee to carry thy bed. He answered them, He that made me whole,
the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. Then asked they him,
What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? And he
that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away,
a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus findeth him in
the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made
whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
-
(John 5:1-14)
-
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on
unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead
works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying
on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
And this will we do, if God permit. For it is impossible for those
who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were
made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God,
and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew
them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of
God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
-
(Hebrews 6:1-6)
-
-
Dear reader, if the foregoing writing, although interesting, remains just
words without any corresponding feeling of faith, consider, ponder on the
following facts that prove that God is the Living God, and what He says
is Truth
-
As you probably know, God's number of perfection is 7:
-
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations;
and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen
generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are
fourteen generations.
-
(Matthew 1:17)
-
Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against
thee: I am God, even thy God. I will not reprove thee for
thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually
before me. I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats
out of thy folds. For every beast of the forest is mine, and
the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains:
and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would
not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. Will
I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? Offer unto God thanksgiving;
and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble:
I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
-
(Psalms 50:7-15)

-
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get
wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
