My dear friend, do you consider yourself to be a Christian?
Do you wish to be?
Do you have any doubts as to whether you will hear those wonderful words
"Good and faithful servant"?
The following is for all of us and may answer some of the questions that
Firstly, are you born again of the Holy Spirit?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter
into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and
that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
If you don't know, you aren't, and the following teaching should cause

Do you wish to have that assurance?
Please understand that it is not something that you can just ask for and
receive; you have to do something about obtaining justification.
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and
in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou
shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For
with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present
your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through
the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of
himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according
as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
The most common way is to start reading your Bible [the King James Version
is recommended] with an open mind, ready to believe that it is the word
that God has prepared for you to search through. At some stage, maybe after
some months, you will meet the Gracious Author of the Book and your life
will be changed.
Some will reach a Spiritual crisis in their lives and shall become radically
Please understand that without the guidance of the Holy Spirit you are
lost. You cannot keep God's commandments in your own strength.
Let it be understood that you must be prepared to undertake to
change your whole way of thinking, of living, before the Holy Spirit
will enter your body.
You shall then begin understanding what the word "love" means as the Holy
Spirit works in you.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me,
he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto
him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my
sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which
sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present
with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father
will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things
to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in
deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall
assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater
than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us
not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask,
we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things
that are pleasing in his sight. And
this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his
Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And
he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby
we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
(1 John 3:18-24)

Dear believer, do you walk according to the wishes of the Holy Spirit?
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ
Jesus, who walk not after
the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life
in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what
the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending
his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin
in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after
the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the
Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death;
but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
To clarify the above somewhat, try to answer the question regarding obeying
God's commandments. Do you try and obey them because you know that if you
don't you will lose your rewards?
That you have to?
Or do you try because you want to?
There is a great difference; the difference between the law of the Old
Covenant and the love and grace of the New.
We see in verse one of the above passage that we must each choose to walk
after the Holy Spirit in our inner being; our hearts. It is something that
we desire to do.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the
faith of Jesus Christ,
even we have believed in
Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of
Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall
no flesh be justified.
As we come under the influence of the Holy Spirit and are willing to be
obedient, the presence of God will become apparent, the fruits of the Holy
Spirit follow, for the glory of God and for the furtherance of His Kingdom.
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty
for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For
all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another,
take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then,
Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For
the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh:
and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things
that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,
variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders,
drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before,
as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things
shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:
against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified
the flesh with the affections and lusts. If
we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not
be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according
to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the
children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in
times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh
and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,
(by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made
us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That
in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in
his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye
saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift
of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained
that we should walk in them.
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is
corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit
of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created
in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak
every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither
give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let
him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that
he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed
out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that
it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit
of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness,
and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from
you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving
one another, even as God for
Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the
wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this
world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take
unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the
evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins
girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all,
taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the
fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword
of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation
be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful [anxious]
for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth
all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are
pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are
of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any
praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned,
and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall
be with you.
We may start off by determining to be obedient, but as we continue the
fruits become second nature- the nature of God Himself, and they (or some)
will become part of our character.
We yearn to do our Saviour's will because we love Him.
People will start to say "I want whatever it is that you have."
I am the true vine, and my Father is
the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away:
and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may
bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have
spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine;
no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the
branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth
much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me,
he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and
cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me,
and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done
unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall
ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue
ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even
as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things
have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that
your joy might be full.
